Common faults we repair

Unidrive, Commander and Mentor drives use letter trip codes rather than numbers. The trips below account for most Unidrive SP and Unidrive M repairs we take in.

  • OI.AC – instantaneous output overcurrent (IGBT, motor cable, short circuit)
  • OI.br – overcurrent in the braking resistor circuit
  • It.AC – I²t overload on the drive output current
  • OU – DC bus overvoltage (deceleration, regen, open braking resistor)
  • UU – DC bus undervoltage (supply loss, rectifier, soft-start)
  • PS – internal power supply failure on the control board
  • dE – encoder or feedback interface trip
  • th – motor thermistor trip
  • Ph – input phase loss
  • OHt – drive over-temperature (fan, heatsink, airflow)

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a failed Control Techniques drive can be expensive, particularly when the original model is obsolete or difficult to source. Repairing the existing drive can be a faster, more cost-effective solution while avoiding unnecessary replacement, reprogramming and commissioning.

  • Repair is also the only option for obsolete and discontinued units, where a like-for-like replacement no longer exists. Where a repair is not economic, we say so and can supply a tested refurbished unit instead.
