Control TechniquesFault codes

Mentor MP fault codes

Every trip a Control Techniques Mentor MP DC drive can display, listed by the trip number in parameter 10.20, with what each one means. Taken from the Mentor MP User Guide, chapter 13 Diagnostics.

Mentor MP trip table

Listed by the trip number shown in parameter 10.20 and in the trip log. Numbers reserved for user trips are shown as ranges, because the drive reports them as t040 to t089 and similar rather than as named trips.

Mentor MP fault indications and what they mean
Trip no.DisplayMeaning
Main drive trips
UVThe drive is running from the external 24 V supply, so the armature supply is not present. Self-resetting when the main supply returns
AOCInstantaneous output over current — peak output current greater than 225%. Check the armature cabling for a short circuit, the motor insulation, and the current loop stability
PSInternal power supply fault — remove any Solutions Module and try a reset before treating it as a drive fault
EtExternal trip from the input on terminal 31
O.SPdMotor speed has exceeded the over speed threshold
PS.10V10 V user power supply current greater than 10 mA — too much load on the 10 V reference
PS.24V24 V internal power supply overload
tunE1The position feedback did not change, or the required speed could not be reached, during the inertia test (Pr 5.12)
tunE2Position feedback direction incorrect, or the motor could not be stopped, during the inertia test
tunE3Field flux has not decayed to zero during autotune
tunE4Back emf detected during autotune — the motor was still spinning when a static autotune was carried out
tunE5No field current detected during autotune
tunE6Cannot achieve a quarter of rated back emf during autotune — reset Pr 5.70 to the nameplate value and re-autotune the motor
tunE7A rotating autotune was requested while the drive is using estimated speed feedback
tunEAutotune stopped before completion
It.ACI²t on drive output current (Pr 4.16) — the motor has been overloaded for too long
O.ht1Drive over temperature at the thyristor junction, based on the thermal model
O.ht2Heatsink over temperature — check the cubicle fans, filters and airflow path
thMotor thermistor trip — motor over temperature, or a break in the thermistor circuit
thSMotor thermistor short circuit — check the thermistor wiring and replace the device if faulty
O.Ld1Digital output overload — total current drawn from the 24 V supply and the digital outputs exceeds 200 mA
O.ht3External discharge (braking) resistor over temperature
cL2Analogue input 2 current loss in current mode — check the 4-20 mA signal on terminal 7
cL3Analogue input 3 current loss in current mode — check the 4-20 mA signal on terminal 8
SCLDrive RS485 serial comms loss to the remote keypad
EEFEEPROM data corrupted — the drive drops into open loop and the RS485 port times out with a remote keypad fitted. Clear by loading defaults and saving
PAdKeypad has been removed while the drive is taking its speed reference from the keypad
CL.bitTrip initiated from the control word (Pr 6.42)
SAVE.ErUser save parameters in the EEPROM are corrupt
PSAVE.ErPower-down save parameters in the EEPROM are corrupt
User and onboard PLC trips
– 89t040 – t089User trips raised by an onboard PLC or Solutions Module program
UP div0Onboard PLC program attempted to divide by zero
UP PArOnboard PLC program attempted to access a parameter that does not exist
UP roOnboard PLC program attempted to write to a read-only parameter
UP SoOnboard PLC program attempted to read a write-only parameter
UP ovrOnboard PLC program attempted an out of range parameter write
UP OFLOnboard PLC variables and function block calls are using more than the allowed RAM — stack overflow
UP uSErOnboard PLC program requested a trip
UP udFOnboard PLC program raised an undefined trip
UP ACCCannot access the onboard PLC program file on the drive
t099User trip defined in the 2nd processor Solutions Module code
t101User trip
– 156t112 – t156User trips
Field, feedback and phase trips
F.OVLField I²t overload — the field supply has been overloaded for too long. Check the field resistance and the field current setting
AOPVoltage has been applied to the armature but no current feedback has been detected — check the armature circuit and the current feedback device
FbLNo feedback from the tachogenerator or encoder
FbrThe polarity of the feedback tachogenerator or encoder is incorrect
FdLNo current in the field supply circuit
FOCExcess current detected in the field current feedback — maximum feedback present with the firing angle fully phased back
SLAC input phase loss — one or more supply phases open circuit
S.OLdThe maximum power the over voltage suppressor can handle has been exceeded
S.OVExcessive suppressor voltage — check the supply voltage and the suppressor itself
th.ErrThyristor missing — hardware fault, return the drive to the supplier
PLL ErrPhase lock loop cannot lock to the auxiliary supply — check that the auxiliary supply is stable
SMARTCARD trips
C.ProdSMARTCARD trip: the data blocks on the card are not compatible with this drive
C.BootSMARTCARD trip: a menu 0 parameter change cannot be saved because the required file has not been created on the card
C.bUSYSMARTCARD trip: the card cannot perform the function because a Solutions Module is accessing it
C.ChgSMARTCARD trip: the data location already contains data — erase it or use another location
C.OptnSMARTCARD trip: the Solutions Modules fitted to the source and destination drives are different
C.RdOSMARTCARD trip: the card has the read only bit set
C.ErrSMARTCARD trip: the data on the card is corrupted
C.datSMARTCARD trip: the data location does not contain any data
C.FULLSMARTCARD trip: the card is full
C.AccSMARTCARD trip: read/write fail — the drive cannot communicate with the card
C.rtgSMARTCARD trip: the voltage or current rating of the source and destination drives are different
C.TypSMARTCARD trip: the parameter set on the card is not compatible with the drive
C.cprSMARTCARD trip: the values in the drive and in the data block on the card are different
Encoder trips
– 191EnC1 – EnC3Drive encoder trips: power supply overload, wire break, and encoder overload
– 198EnC9 – EnC10Encoder trips: position feedback selected from a Solutions Module slot with no feedback module fitted, and termination overload
dEStTwo or more parameters are writing to the same destination parameter — set Pr xx.00 to 2001 and check the menus for duplication
Solutions Module trips
– 214SL1.HF – SL3.dFSolutions Module trips for slots 1 to 3: module hardware fault, watchdog time out, a fault detected by the module, module removed, and module type changed since parameters were saved
SL.rtdDrive mode has changed and the Solutions Module parameter routing is now incorrect — press reset, and contact the module supplier if it persists
t216User trip
Hardware trips
– 229HF17 – HF29Hardware trips: no comms from the power processor, bucket suppressor capacitor failure, overheat on the suppressor or snubber circuits, power stage identification error, power processor watchdog, undefined exception or level overrun, power circuit thermistor fault, incompatible power software, and an armature timing error.
