Control TechniquesFault codes
Commander C200 / C300 fault codes
Every trip a Control Techniques Commander C200 or C300 can display, listed by the trip number in parameter 10.020 and the code shown on the keypad. Taken from the Commander C200/C300 Control User Guide, chapter 12 Diagnostics. Undervoltage shows on these drives as the UU status rather than as a numbered trip, and clears itself when the supply returns.
Commander C200 / C300 trip table
Listed by the trip number shown in parameter 10.020 and in the trip log. Codes are grouped the way the drive presents them: supply and power trips, motor and thermal trips, control trips, NV Media Card trips, option module trips and hardware trips.
| Trip no. | Display | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Supply and power trips | ||
| 2 | OV | DC bus voltage above the peak or maximum continuous level for 15 seconds — check the supply level, braking resistor value and motor insulation. Normally caused by the motor regenerating during a fast deceleration |
| 3 | OI.AC | Instantaneous output over current — the drive output current has exceeded the maximum rating. Check for a short circuit in the motor cable, an earth fault or a motor that is too small for the acceleration rate. Cannot be reset for 10 seconds |
| 4 | OI.br | Braking IGBT over current — the short circuit protection for the braking IGBT has activated. Check the braking resistor wiring for a short circuit |
| 5 | PSU | Internal power supply fault — one of the internal power supply rails is outside its limits or overloaded. Hardware fault, the drive needs repair |
| Control and sequencing trips | ||
| 6 | Et | External trip — raised by the user from a digital input or over serial comms. Check External Trip (10.032) and the source of the trip in Pr 10.038 |
| 8 | U.OI | User over current — the output current has exceeded the level set in User Over Current Trip Level (04.041) |
| Motor and thermal trips | ||
| 10 | th.br | Brake resistor over temperature — the hardware thermal monitoring on the braking resistor has tripped. The resistor is being worked harder than its rating allows |
| 11 | tun.1 | Required speed not reached — the drive tripped during an autotune because the motor did not reach the speed required for the test. Check the mechanical brake is released and Mechanical Load Test Level (05.021) is set correctly |
| 13 | tun.3 | Measured inertia has exceeded the parameter range — rotating autotune or mechanical load measurement could not complete. Check the motor cable wiring. RFC-A mode only |
| 18 | tun.S | Autotune stopped before completion — the drive enable or the run command was removed during the test. Check terminals 31 and 34 (31 and 35 on size 5 to 9) were held active and the run command stayed on in Pr 08.003 or 08.004 |
| 19 | It.br | Braking resistor overload (I²t) — more braking energy than the resistor fitted can absorb. Check Braking Resistor Rated Power and Thermal Time Constant in Pr 10.030 and 10.031 |
| 20 | It.Ac | Output current overload timed out (I²t) — the drive has been delivering more than its rated current for too long. Check the motor load and the Motor Rated Current setting |
| 21 | Oht.I | Inverter over temperature — the IGBT junction temperature from the software thermal model has exceeded its limit. Check the enclosure ventilation, fan operation and switching frequency |
| 24 | th | Motor thermistor over temperature — the thermistor on terminal 14 (digital input 5) has gone above Thermistor Trip Threshold (07.048). Check the motor temperature, the load and the thermistor continuity |

| 28 | cL.A1 | Analog input 1 current loss — in 4-20 mA or 20-4 mA mode the input current on terminal 2 has fallen below 3 mA. Check the control wiring and the Analog Input 1 Mode in Pr 07.007 |
| 30 | SCL | Control word watchdog time out — the drive is set to trip if no control word is received over comms within the watchdog period. Check the master is still sending |
| 31 | EEF | Default parameters have been loaded — the drive has restored defaults, usually after a parameter database or EEPROM checksum fault. Save your parameters with a user save |
| Supply and power trips | ||
| 32 | PH.Lo | Supply phase loss — one of the input phases is missing or badly unbalanced. Check the supply, the fuses and the input rectifier |
| 33 | rS | Measured resistance has exceeded the parameter range — the value measured during autotune is outside the allowed range. Check the motor is connected and the motor nameplate data is correct |
| Control and sequencing trips | ||
| 34 | PAd | Keypad has been removed — the drive was taking its reference or enable from the keypad when the keypad was unplugged. Refit the keypad or change the reference source |
| 35 | CL.bt | Trip initiated from the control word — bit 12 of Control Word (06.042) was set while the control word was enabled in Pr 06.043. Clear bit 12 to reset |
| 36 | U.S | User save error — the user save did not complete, usually because the power was removed while parameters were being stored. Repeat the save in Pr 00 and allow the drive to finish before powering down |
| 37 | Pd.S | Power down save error — the parameters could not be saved during a power down. Check the drive is being powered down cleanly |
| Hardware trips | ||
| 93 | Pb.Er | No communications between the control board and the power processor. Hardware fault — the drive needs repair |
| 96 | UP.uS | Trip generated from within an onboard user program — the sub-trip number shows which program function raised it. Check the user program |
| Control and sequencing trips | ||
| 97 | d.Ch | Drive parameters are being changed — the drive was enabled while defaults were loading, the drive mode was changing or data was being transferred from the NV Media Card. Don't enable the drive during those actions |
| Supply and power trips | ||
| 98 | Out.P | Output phase loss — a phase is missing at the drive output. Check the motor and drive connections, or set Output Phase Loss Detection Enable (06.059) to 0 to disable the trip |
| Hardware trips | ||

| 178 | C.by | NV Media Card trip — an attempt was made to access the card while an option module was already using it. No data is transferred |
| 179 | C.d.E | NV Media Card trip — the data location on the card already contains data. Erase it or use another data location |
| 180 | C.OPt | NV Media Card trip — a different option module is fitted between the source and destination drives. The module's parameters will be set to defaults rather than the values from the card |
| 181 | C.rdo | NV Media Card trip — the card or the data block is read only. Set Pr 00 to 9777 and reset to clear the read only flag |
| 182 | C.Err | NV Media Card trip — the data structure on the card is faulty. Resetting the trip erases and rebuilds the folder structure on an SD card |
| 183 | C.dAt | NV Media Card trip — the file or data location being accessed does not exist. Check the data file number |
| 184 | C.Ful | NV Media Card trip — the card is full, so the data block could not be created. Delete a data block to make space |
| 185 | C.Acc | NV Media Card trip — the drive was unable to access the card, so the transfer may be incomplete. Check the card is fitted correctly and replace it if faulty |
| 186 | C.rtg | NV Media Card trip — the current and/or voltage rating of the source and destination drives differ, so rating dependent parameters may not transfer. Check the drive rating dependent settings after the transfer |
| 187 | C.tyP | NV Media Card trip — the parameter set on the card was saved in a drive mode this drive does not support. Use a file for the same operating mode |
| 188 | C.cPr | NV Media Card trip — the compare found the file or data on the card is different to the data in the drive. Check the correct data block was used |
