Control TechniquesFault codes

Commander SE fault codes

Every trip a Control Techniques Commander SE can display, listed by the trip number in parameter 10.20, with the condition and the usual causes. Taken from the Commander SE Advanced User Guide.

Commander SE trip table

Listed by the trip number shown in parameter 10.20. The Commander SE uses a shorter trip set than the Unidrive, so several numbers in the range are unused rather than missing from the drive.

Commander SE fault indications and what they mean
Trip no.DisplayMeaning
Main drive trips
1UUDC link under voltage — low AC supply voltage, or low DC link voltage when supplied from an external DC power supply. Only stored in the trip log if it occurs while running
2OUDC link over voltage — excessive inertia in the machine during deceleration, or a deceleration rate set too fast for the inertia of the machine
3OI.ACAC instantaneous over current — insufficient ramp times, a phase to phase or phase to earth short at the drive output, or an autotune needed after a motor or cable change. Cannot be reset for 10 seconds
4OI.brOver current in the braking IGBT — excessive current in the braking resistor, or a braking resistor value too small. Does not apply to size 1 units. Cannot be reset for 10 seconds
6EtExternal trip — a digital input programmed as external trip has opened
7O.SPOver speed — excessive motor speed, typically the mechanical load driving the motor, or a standard ramp voltage set too low (Pr 2.08)
18tunEAuto-tune failure — the motor is loaded, or no motor is connected
19It.brI²t on the braking resistor — excessive braking resistor energy. Does not apply to size 1 units
20It.ACMotor overload on current x time — too much mechanical load, or a high impedance phase to phase or phase to earth short at the drive output
21Oht1Overheat from the drive thermal model
22Oht2Overheat from the heatsink thermistor — 95 °C (203 °F) reached, 100 °C (212 °F) on size 4
24thOver temperature from the motor thermistor — excessive motor temperature
26O.Ld1+24 V or digital output overload — short circuit or excessive load on the +24 V output. The enable/reset terminal will not reset this trip; use the stop/reset key
28cLCurrent loop loss on terminal 5 — input current below 3 mA when the input is set for 4-20 mA or 20-4 mA
30SCLUser serial communications watchdog failure — loss of serial communications between the drive and the master
31EEFFailure of the internal EEPROM — possible loss of parameter values from corruption or severe electrical noise. Load default parameters (Pr 11.43) and re-enter the set-up
32PHPhase loss — one of the input phases has become disconnected. Applies to 200 V and 400 V three phase units, not dual rated units
33rSStator resistance measurement failure — motor cable disconnected during the measurement, or a motor too small for the drive (Pr 5.12)
User and option trips
40 – 99trxxUser trips, raised over serial comms by writing the trip code to Pr 10.38
180F.busField bus disconnection whilst in use — the drive has lost the field bus it was being controlled over
182C.ErrQuickey memory corrupt — bad connection between the key and the drive, or corrupted memory
183C.datQuickey with no data — a new or empty Quickey is being read, or the key software does not match the drive
185C.AccQuickey write fail — bad connection or a faulty Quickey
186C.rtgQuickey voltage rating change — a Quickey already programmed for another rating has been read by the drive
188O.Ld2+28 V serial communications power supply overload — more than 110 mA drawn, or a short circuit on the +28 V serial comms supply
189O.cLCurrent loop input overload — input current has exceeded 25 mA

Trip strings vary slightly with software version. If your display shows something not listed here, send us a photo of the keypad and we will identify it.
