Unidrive fault codes
Every trip the original Control Techniques Unidrive can display, listed by the trip number in parameter 10.20, with what each one means. Taken from the Unidrive User Guide, issue 9.
Unidrive trip table
Listed by the trip number shown in parameter 10.20, so it can be read straight off the drive or out of the trip log. Size 5 drives report each power module separately, so their trips carry a module number as a sub-code.
| Trip no. | Display | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Main drive trips | ||
| 1 | UU | Under volts — DC bus below the trip threshold: 350 Vdc on a 400 V drive, 160 Vdc on a 200 V low voltage drive. Also occurs whenever the AC supply is removed. The supply must stay above 342 Vac on 400 V, or 180 Vac on 200 V LV |
| 2 | OU | Over volts on the DC bus — regenerative energy during deceleration, a deceleration rate faster than the load inertia allows, or a supply disturbance |
| 3 | OI.AC | Over current in the output stage — 225% of the drive full load current (Pr 11.32) reached. Ramp times too short, output short circuit, or motor insulation fault. Cannot be reset for 10 seconds |
| 4 | OI.br | Over current in the braking transistor — the short circuit protection in the braking IGBT has operated; check the braking resistor circuit |
| 5 | PS | Internal power supply fault — remove any option module and attempt a reset to see whether the module caused it; otherwise a hardware fault in the drive |
| 6 | Et | External trip — a digital input programmed as external trip has opened |
| 7 | OU.SPd | Over speed — motor speed above the overspeed threshold, typically the mechanical load driving the motor |
| 8 | Prc2 | UD70 second processor fault — the watchdog instruction was not serviced within 200 ms, or an operating system failure in the UD70 large option module |
| 9 | SEP | UD5x small option module fault — for example a UD50 output over current, a UD52 encoder supply overload, or a broken resolver connection on a UD53 |
| 10 | ENC.OUL | Encoder power supply overload — short circuit or excessive current draw on the encoder supply |
| 11 – 18 | ENC.PH1 – ENC.PH8 | Encoder phase trips — one encoder channel (A, B, Z or their complements) is missing or out of sequence |
| 19 | It.br | I x t thermal overload in the braking resistor — more braking energy than the resistor fitted can absorb |
| 20 | It.AC | I x t thermal overload in the motor — too much mechanical load, or a high impedance short on the drive output |
| 21 | Oh1 | IGBT junction over temperature from the drive thermal model — 145 °C (293 °F) reached and the drive was unable to reduce the load. Reduce switching frequency, duty cycle or motor load |
| 22 | Oh2 | Heatsink over temperature measured by the heatsink thermistor — 94 °C (201 °F). Check cubicle fans, ventilation paths and door filters |
| 23 | OA | Control PCB over temperature — ambient around the control board has reached 95 °C (203 °F). Check the fans and the ventilation of the enclosure |
| 24 | th | Motor thermistor over temperature |
| 25 | thS | Motor thermistor short circuit — check the thermistor wiring |
| 26 | OP.OVLd | Control terminals output overload — the total current drawn from the +24 V supply on terminal 22 and the digital outputs has exceeded the limit |
| 27 | cL1 | Current signal loss on analogue input 1 in 4-20 mA mode — signal below 3 mA |
| 28 | cL2 | Current signal loss on analogue input 2 in 4-20 mA mode |
| 29 | cL3 | Current signal loss on analogue input 3 (terminal 8) in 4-20 mA mode |
| 30 | SCL | Serial communications loss — the drive lost its serial link while slaving drives or using the remote keypad |
| 31 | EEF | EEPROM fault — stored parameter values are corrupted; load defaults and re-enter the set-up |
| 32 | Ph | AC supply phase loss — detected from increased DC bus ripple; needs between 50 and 100% load before the drive trips, and the drive attempts to stop the motor first |
| 33 | rS | Incorrect stator resistance value — a motor phase was disconnected while the measurement was taken, or the motor is too small for the drive |
| 34 | St GL | Spurious trip — the drive has logged a trip it could not attribute to a specific condition |
| 35 | SEP EC | UD52 SIN-COS encoder communications failure — check the serial connections on terminals 46 and 47 and the encoder DC supply on terminals 44 and 45. Absolute position is lost |
| 36 | SEP EF | UD52 SIN-COS encoder fault — the module has detected a fault on the encoder signals |
| 37 | AN1.diS | UD78 servo option module displaced — the module programmed into the drive has been removed, or is not fitted correctly |
| 39 | L1.SYNC | Synchronisation to the AC supply failed in regen mode — check the supply voltage and frequency and the power connections |
| UD70 application module trips | ||
| 40 – 69 | tr40 – tr69 | UD70 run time trips raised by an application module program: unknown error, parameter does not exist, write to a read-only parameter, value out of range, maths error, DPL array out of range, RS485 trip, module and system file incompatible |
| 70 – 99 | tr70 – tr99 | User trips defined by the UD70 program, written to Pr 10.38 |
| Size 5 module trips | ||
| 101 | OtinP | Power module over temperature on a size 5 drive. The guide lists the code and number only; the module reporting it is not identified by this trip |
| 102 – 109 | OtHS1 – OtHS8 | Over temperature reported by power module 1 to 8 on a size 5 drive. The guide lists the code and number only |
| 110 – 117 | PS1 – PS8 | Internal power supply fault in power module 1 to 8 (size 5 only) — check the interface ribbon cables and connections, otherwise a hardware fault in that module |
| 118 – 125 | OI.AC1 – OI.AC8 | Over current in the output stage of power module 1 to 8 (size 5 only) — 170% of the module full load current reached |
| 126 – 133 | OU1 – OU8 | Over volts on the DC bus of power module 1 to 8 (size 5 only) — 830 Vdc threshold reached, from excessive regenerative energy |
| 134 – 141 | OI.dc1 – OI.dc8 | DC over current in power module 1 to 8 (size 5 only) — an insulation fault, or a braking resistor value too low |
| 142 – 149 | UFLt1 – UFLt8 | Unidentified fault on power up in power module 1 to 8 (size 5 only) |
| 150 – 158 | ConF1 – ConF8 | The number of power modules has changed (size 5 only) — check that the DIP switches on the control module match the address settings on the power modules, then save parameters |
| 159 – 179 | tr159 – tr179 | User trips defined by the UD70 program |
| 180 | SEP.diS | UD5x small option module displaced — the type of module the drive is programmed for has been removed or is not fitted correctly |

| Option module trips | ||
| 182 – 189 | FSH.Err – FSH.cPr | UD55 flash memory module trips: flash error, flash data, flash type, flash access, flash large option module, flash menu 20, flash rating and flash compare — a fault in the UD55 module or its data |
